The Review
After joining Devoteam in September 2022, 2023 was my first full year as Principal DevOps Engineer. My mission was to lead the DevOps Offer and the DevOps Practice.
While the DevOps Practice consisted of the internal definition of principles and practice across the organization areas, the DevOps Offer consisted of the definition of what and how we could help our customers deliver software. Some examples are CI/CD Pipelines, FinOps Practice, Monitoring Delivery Performance, and Platform Engineering. In addition, I was the builder and manager of the team whose mission was to support the defined Offer.
It was a great learning year, where I improved skills like managing a team (teaching and mentorship included), communication, and collaboration with the different areas of a consulting company. Also a valuable lesson: the importance of meaning the expectations, especially customer’s expectations.
Learning & Training
Through daily work and training, I improved my management and leadership skills. Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes were technologies that I used in most of the projects and training sessions.
Certification
I was able to become a FinOps Certified Practitioner
In December 2023 I became a FinOps Certified Practitioner. This certification allowed me to acquire the necessary knowledge to be part of a FinOps project.
Reading
I was able to complete the goal of reading 12 books. However, I did not share my reading notes (at least in a consistent way).
Writing
Didn’t make any progress on this goal. I need to think of a different approach to start writing.
Community
I was able to fulfill my goal regarding speaking at conferences. I was a speaker in two:
I had the honor and the joy of being a CD Foundation Ambassador in 2023. The CD Foundation is an open-source community dedicated to improving software delivery.
Open-source
I failed to complete this goal since I did not start an open-source project.
Research & Development
I explore the topic “CI/CD as code” by exploring the tool Dagger.
